John Buckley RA, CPHD

John Buckley is a registered architect in Massachusetts and New York. He is also a Certified Passive House Designer and happy to focus on deep energy efficiency in buildings. John did his undergraduate studies at Boston College majoring in Philosophy with a concentration in studio arts, particularly ceramics. He continued his education with a Master of Architecture degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The bulk of John’s experience is in private residential architecture with a smattering of gallery and small restaurant projects. He spent 16 years practicing in New York with various architecture offices. Three firms, Ryall Porter Sheridan Architects, Robert Young Architects and CWB Architects, were important in his development as a practicing architect. An earlier foray into custom furniture and millwork production with fellow RISD architect graduates has also stuck with him as an important foundation. Between these experiences John was exposed to a rich variety of influences, projects and methods of delivering architecture services. Three years ago John returned to his native Massachusetts and started JB-AD.

Each project presents it’s own mix of possibilities and challenges. JB-AD aims to sort through these and arrive at the clearest, and simplest set of solutions through a personal collaboration between client and architect. John pulls on his experience to give appropriate attention to what a given project may require, be that a wide-open creative approach, a focus on sustainable building design or heavy project management. He endeavors to be transparent with each client and show them the various forces that will impact their project. In the end John’s highest goal is to establish a relationship of trust where he and a client can get on with the work of realizing their vision.
